Our Environment - we are committed !

There is a great deal happening in East Anglia which is geared to Nature conservation, wildlife and sustainable energy. Here at Jolly Farmers we are committed to the environment and the natural habitat.

We are situated within a nature conservation area, part of the Waveny conservation project, and are also in an area of SSSI. We support all wildlife including the local Tawny Owls which often reside in our Owl Box, many bird boxes, bug sancturies and "bug hotels" for winter mini-beast hibernation. Bird-Feeders are abundant. We recycle the maximum possible and harvest rainwater for gardening despite being on an unmetered supply. All Veggie scraps are composted.

Our Septic Tank system is natural and energy-free. Cars are classic cars, which are run daily, maintained and repaired just as they were designed, use recycled parts where possible and over their lifetime, they emit less CO2 than it would take to produce a brand-new car.. The Jolly Farmers is 90% energy-bulb lit. It runs most main appliances on Eco-7 and although runs a professionally-maintained oil-fired boiler, it is supplemented with wood burners using its own as well as locally sourced wood from local farms - in fact we have never bought kindling or logs !

We embrace all who are involved in the projects that the nation has committed to and gladly support all companies and businesses associated with the drive for protecting the countryside, wildlife and sustainable energy expansion here in East Anglia.

The lovely heritage coast, Southwold, Aldeburgh and the surrounding areas are approximately 25-30 mins drive away from our rural retreat, nestled amongst hundreds of acres of farmland but just 5 mins drive away from all village amenities including local shop, pubs, and restuarants. (Supermarkets and other shops are a further short drive away at Harleston (7 Miles, Halesworth 9 miles, and Diss 14 miles) Further afield are the breathtaking Norfolk Broads, some of the most interesting stately homes and gardens in the UK, and the vast natural coastline of North Norfolk and Cromer.

Gates Lodge detatched brick-built self-catering lodge can accommodate up to 4 people in separate rooms with all mod cons. Converted in summer 2011, it is completely independent and is complete with private parking, gardens and fully equipped. Special discounts are available, to technicians and professionals that support the energy industries or wildlife conservation professionals on business. For organisations this would also mean a huge saving on hotel rates. Ideal for artists, photographers and film industry.
