Welcome! We invite you to escape to one of the most idyllic and unspoilt places in England. If you want to enjoy a therapeutic break in amongst endless rural countryside with spectacular views then this is it.
Situated on the Suffolk / Norfolk border, close enough to the Seaside but within easy reach of most major routes including the A12 and A140, we're about 20 mins from Diss mainline train station with direct links to London.
The Jolly Farmers is an oak timbered former farmhouse and inn, built in AD 1590. We are nestled amongst hundreds of acres of farmland in between the villages of Fressingfield and Cratfield within a nature conservation area.
Coupled with its long farming heritage, more recent times saw the Jolly Farmers a popular country pub. Sadly, the Jolly Farmers closed as a pub in 1968, but as a quality bed & breakfast we have capitalised on its superb location and layout, with a clever blend of ancient and modern.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Our B&B is situated on Chippenhall Green, home to around 30 horses between May and October. The common is believed to be the only one left in Suffolk to have horses untethered and left to roam free.
Our rooms cater for couples and families, and are baby-friendly with free use of travel cots and high chairs. Immerse yourself in the distant sounds of Cockrels, Geese, Peacocks and Tractors. With its unspoilt surroundings, endless country lanes, enjoy your stay with us: walking, cycling, or leisurely drives, stopping off at many of the popular country pubs and restaurants, including the famous Fox & Goose
From Fressingfield Fox & Goose (being on your right), carry on down the hill 100 yards to the War Memorial and turn right into Low Road signposted Cratfield. Follow this road out of the village for 2 miles, you will pass a large farm on the left (Yew Tree Farm) and then see a post-box on the right at a T-junction and a Cattle-Grid. (This will be signposted Stradbroke to the right.) Go past this junction just 25 yards and our entrance is on the right.
We are situated within a SSSI and nature conservation area which is renowned for rare birds and wildlife, many of which are seen within the grounds.
Close to the renowned Suffolk Heritage Coast, and the Norfolk Broads, there are so many places of interest nearby. These include RSPB Minsmere Southwold with its pier, Dunwich, Jimmy's Farm, and many transport and aviation museums. Leisure pursuits such as golf and fishing within easy reach.
