We invite you to leave the rat-race behind and escape to one of the most popular, idyllic, and tranquil places in England with stunning unspoilt views… if you want to enjoy a therapeutic break whilst sampling endless rural countryside then this is it. We are situated within reach of most major routes including the A12 and A140 and we are about 12 miles from Diss mainline station with direct links to London.
Jolly Farmers B&B Fressingfield is a substantial oak timbered former Farmhouse and Inn. Built in 1590 and Grade 2 listed, we are situated amongst landscaped gardens 2 miles in between the villages of
Fressingfield and Cratfield within a nature conservation area. We are also listed with English Heritage no. 279968 We're close to the renowned Suffolk Heritage Coast and many other places of interest, including wildlife sanctuaries, such as RSPB Minsmere , transport and aviation museums and there are leisure pursuits such as golf and fishing within easy reach. Our B&B has a large family suite on the first floor which consists of 2 separate bedrooms - one large double with full en-suite bathroom, and one adjoining bedroom with 4ft bed (access to bathroom is via the main bedroom) - ideal for Couples and/or friends and family travelling together. The main room has a colour TV, shaver plug adaptor and hairdryer. We are also Baby-friendly, which includes free use of high-chair, buggy, travel cot and/or moses basket.
The accommodation retains much of its original features including inglenook fireplaces, mullion windows, spiral brick staircase, and oak beams throughout - even down to the witches marks found on the oak beam across the main fireplace! The property underwent a substantial restoration in 1987 and the builders won a conservation award.
There is ample parking on site. You’ll find a choice of traditional or veggie breakfasts, eat in the old keg room in the morning and in the evening you are welcome to relax in the main lounge with inglenook fireplace or take a walk around the substantial gardens or the common.
We are a strictly non-smoking establishment. Guests with permission are welcome to smoke outside. No pets allowed.
The Jolly Farmers original brick staircase although well lit, is of a spiral nature and as such this will need to be taken into consideration if guests have special needs.
If you would like to visit the area in advance of placing a booking, let us know and we can arrange for you to view the guest rooms.
Locality
The area is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Our gardens attract an abundance of birds and wildlife, including our resident Tawny Owls from time to time which nest in our Owl box. While you are with us why not try our local nature walk or explore the area and scenery for yourself. You may see Owls, Cuckoos, Skylarks, Partridges, Ducks, Pheasants, Moorhens, Waxwings, Woodpeckers and many other wild birds, Hares, Stoats, Foxes, Deer, and there are Horses which graze on the adjacent 40-acre common between May and October, believed to be the only such common left in Suffolk .
The area is very popular with Walkers, Cyclists and Horse Riders and also is an excellent touring base. Classic Car enthusiasts also please see our sister site
